These wonderfully decorated skeletons are handmade and painted in Bali. They are inspired by traditional Mexican designs known as either 'calacas' or 'calaveras.' Whilst these designs are made year round, it is during the day of the dead festival at the end of October and beginning of November that they are displayed everywhere.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a large and colourful celebration throughout Latin America. Families bring food, drinks, chairs, and picnic blankets to the cemetery. They sit around the grave barbecuing, drinking, chatting and laughing. There is even live music, as people like to play the favourite songs of those who have passed away. The Peruvians believe that there is no better way to feel close to their deceased loved ones than by cheerfully celebrating, talking about good memories, and honouring their lives.
Size: 14cm x 54cm
Hand painted and Fairtrade
